You may or may not know we have a new demo vehicle at Reep Yorkshire; A BMW M2 wearing multiple different products which we offer, to highlight the benefits and show how good it looks.
You can read more about our demo car here
We recently took the M2 out to Germany to visit the Nurburgring and put the vehicle to its paces.
The car was driven from our HQ here in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire to Hull Ferry Port, where we got the ferry over to Rotterdam. From there, the long drive to the Nurburgring began. We spent 4 or 5 days there looking at the crazy cars on display, a fair few from the UK too!
The M2 did about 1 hour around the Nurburgring. No timing was allowed and to be honest, we didn’t want to even get involved in chasing lap times. We went with a couple of good friends and clients who knew the track well.
We saw the newly released Porsche GT4RS in the flesh, which looks as stunning as the launch photos. This thing wasn’t holding back around the Nurburgring.
Also great to see a great mix of special cars you don’t normally see being put to its paces, check them out below…
Also a 991.2 GT3RS went a little too hard…
As well as a BMW E36 which was almost unrecognisable at a nearby workshop…
Back to our demo M2, look how good it looks in the sun with that Green PPF popping!
It was nice to see the PPF and Windscreen Protection hold its own, preventing any damage from occurring to the paint and glass underneath. However I doubt it would have saved us if we collided with a barrier so fortunately that wasn’t the case…
Our car has a variety of products and services we offer installed to the vehicle, but mainly:
- Full Car Coloured Green PPF
- Carbon PPF Roof
- Windscreen Protection
- Gtechniq HALO Ceramic Coating
The Full Car Green PPF we have on the car, is essentially our clear PPF with a tinted top coat to create a green metallic flake in the sun. It’s extremely subtle however shows where we have the film on, good to show customers that not all PPF has to be boring, completely reversible and also multiple colours available if you want to switch up your black car whilst having it fully protected. This received no stone chips and cleaned up perfectly, especially nice to know the paint underneath is as good as new.
The Carbon PPF on the roof looks perfect and cleaned up really well. Again no chips, scratches or anything.
The Windscreen Protection was particularly impressive, having driven all the way to the Nurburgring and back covering over 1000 miles, as well as reaching a hefty top speed on the AutoBahn, there is not a single chip or any peppering on the windscreen. A client of ours with a new 992 Turbo S was at the Nurburgring and we bumped into him, a few laps around the track and his windscreen had cracked needing an instant replacement whilst out there as it would be illegal and dangerous to drive back to the UK with. The cost of having the windscreen protection applied paid for itself by avoiding potentially ruining or ending this particular road trip short.
The Gtechniq HALO Ceramic Coating applied over the top of the PPF was a dream when it came to cleaning the car after its 1000 miles of extreme use. A quick snow foam and rinse and everything had flown off it, making for an easy maintenance clean and popped back into our studio on display where you’d never known its just been driven as intended from the factory!
As well as the coating on top of the PPF, we had also applied our Gtechniq Total Surface Protection Bundle, which is every other surface on the vehicle protected with Gtechniq products. Paying particular attention to the last part of the car which had a hard time; the wheels and brake callipers! You can imagine how dirty these were after all that heavy braking and use. The wheels are black anyway but they had an orange tinge to them, with all the brake dust which had built up. The brake callipers are supposed to be blue but they were definitely a dark blue/brown colour at the end of the trip. Luckily, we had Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour applied to the wheel faces and also the inner wheel barrels and callipers. This meant when it came to cleaning them, a pre clean with wheel cleaner and a jet wash, everything flew off after being baked on for over a week. This was then followed by the process being repeated leaving a small amount of dirt left to be cleaned by hand before rinsing again. The dirt is now fully removed from on top of the ceramic coating layer, which is protecting the natural surface finish underneath. Again, these wheels now look as good as when they were originally refurbished.
All in all a great trip. We will definitely be looking at booking another next year however we are potentially looking at another project car which we can take to do some more laps around the track and really put our products to the test.
We find its super important to put the products and services which we offer and recommend to our clients to the test, not only on the road but also in extreme conditions to try and reach the limits of our products and always look for ways to improve and develop to stay ahead of the industry which Reep nationwide always have a habit of doing. In this case, we are delighted to say every single product applied performed perfectly and was a walk in the park. Maybe next time we need to go rally crossing to try find the limits!
Home time, back to the office!
